In what is shaping up to be one of the biggest local book fairs in Egypt's capital – save for another particular annual international book fair – AUC Bookstore is set to welcome thousands of Cairenes for a three-day extravaganza, starting on Friday 11th of December on Tahrir campus.
The Tahrir Book Fair will see the shop slash prices by 20% as well as offer books for a mere 10LE – that's 10LE, which isn't even enough to buy a decent meal these days. In addition to the store itself being the hub of the fair, the campus will also be peppered with stands and stalls offering similarly zany deals books and other book-related bric-a-brac, with purchases of 200LE and more gaining you a 50LE voucher that can be used with AUC Bookstore's stand at the aforementioned particular annual international book fair – the Cairo International Book Fair.
For the folks at AUC Bookstore, the fair marks a significant 2015.
In October of this year, the Kasr El Aini entrance to the AUC Bookstore in Downtown was reopened having been closed since the revolution – and it was made out to be quite the occasion. On the face of it, one might ask "why the big deal?" and one might have a point. After all, the shop was accessible through its other entrance along Sheikh Rihan Street.
For many who frequent the shop and have come to rely on it as a go-to for their literary needs, the closing was symbolic of the struggle and the disappointments of the revolution. With the entrance now open, however, AUC Bookstore can and will take its place as one of the most important bookstores in Cairo.
The Tahrir Book Fair will run from Friday 11th to Sunday 13th of December between 10AM and 6PM.
