Two weeks separate us from Ramadan, and while many people are rejuvenating their energies by the sea, others are catching the last bit of nightlife and entertainment events before they go on hiatus during the holy month. To folks who are stuck in the city, here's what you can do in Cairo this weekend.
Thursday sees an interesting musical night which begins at Cairo Jazz Club, with local talent Hassan Ramzy, performing some acoustic originals, before two of Egypt's favourite bands, the Cadillacs and Bluezophrenia take over with some of the finest rock covers and all things blues.
In Maadi, the Tap kicks off its weekend with local rockers Screwdriver, while funk band, Salalem perform at Downtown's After Eight and DJ trio 3abkarino, Kiko and Bob claim the decks of after-hours club, Bamboo with some fine house tunes.
Meanwhile, New Cairo's newest musical and entertainment venue, the Marquee, welcomes iconic Algerian singer, Souad Massi, in a night where she will be performing her sensational North African folk music.
In Zamalek, El Sawy Culturewheel's River Hall welcomes Arab Rock Festival, with local bands Darwasha Project, Malaaz and Azraq Samawy performing, while 3elbet Alwan welcomes Marionette Puppets show and Garden City's cultural hub, ROOM Art Space hosts electronic musician, Hyperpotamus, who is set to perform and conduct an electronic music master class.
Elsewhere in the city, Renaissance Cairo Mirage Hotel's Vintage Bar hosts a special Ladies Night, JW Marriott Hotel's Ahlein and Fairmont Nile City's Bab El Nil both welcome an Oriental belly dancing night, while Fairmont Nile City's Onyx Lounge, once again, welcomes local songstress, Riham.
Fun in the city continues on Friday, with local band, Vybe returning to the Tap for some rock, blues and funk covers, while DJ whiz, Mohasseb claims the decks of Cairo Jazz Club for a night of progressive house music and local DJs 3abkarino, Kiki and Bob perform at after-hours club, Bamboo.
Meanwhile, legendary Lebanese star, Magida El Roumi returns to Cairo for yet another memorable performance by the Pyramids, in support of Ahl Masr Burns Hospital.
Brunch fans are in for a treat this Friday, with InterContinental Semiramis' Night and Day restaurant, hosting a lavish brunch buffet, while popular Downtown bistro, Eish w Malh welcomes its weekly midday brunch featuring live music by Ibrahim El Haddad and New Cairo's The Tap East welcomes a special musical brunch performed by Raw Acoustic.
Later in the evening, El Sawy Culturewheel hosts an all-Nubian cultural day featuring the Nubian Knights, while ROOM Art Space hosts AfriCairo, an Oriental-African fusion band and Renaissance Cairo Mirage City Hotel's Vintage, invites karaoke fanatics for a night of sing-along fun.
Though it's a calmer events day, there's still plenty to do on Saturday, with Cairo Symphony Orchestra performing a repertoire of classical music at Cairo Opera House's Main Hall, while 3elbet Alwan welcomes Egybadour band, for an evening of Eastern-Western musical fusion.
Elsewhere, Eish w Malh invites everyone for a night of soothing dinner and music performed by Abdallah Magdy and Ahmed Samy, while Four Seasons Nile Plaza's Graffiti hosts a Ladies Only night with DJ Roro on the decks and karaoke fans can still enjoy some weekend karaoke at Maadi's bar, Cheers.
Art appreciators are welcome to attend the remarkable works of Alexandria-based visual artist, Hady Boraey at Art Talks Gallery in Zamalek.
