Revolutionary online food platform, Yumamia, has been nothing short of a hit since launching in 2014 and has received more applauds recently, in the form of a well-deserved Silver award from the Publicis90 Global Startup Competition.
With over 3,500 submissions from across 130 countries, only 90 (less than 3% of the overall number) were given awards by an anonymous and rigorous selection process undertaken by digital experts from different parts of the world.
The awards were launched in January of this year as an initiative to provide funding and mentoring to the best and most innovative start-ups from across the world. Celebrating Publicis Groupe's 90th anniversary, the awards are a tribute to Publicis founder Marcel Bleustein-Blanchet's entrepreneurial spirit – a spirit that has built Publicis into one of the biggest media and advertising networks in the world.
Of course Yumamia founders, Belal El Borno and Mahmoud El Maghraby, are delighted with the recognition, but they walked away with more than a shiny award and a feeling of satisfaction. The Yumamia team, like the other winners, will receive monetary funding and mentoring by global business experts and will also get the chance to participate in Viva Technology Paris – a new leading international event that brings together 5,000 startups with top investors and companies.
The win is much more significant in the wider scope of entrepreneurship in Egypt, particularly in the realm of digital, which, against the odds, continues to grow and evolve, as well a make ripples both regionally and internationally. For Yumamia, it's a huge achievement for what started off as a simple idea that has come to provide a unique offering to the diverse food scene in Egypt.
The website, which gives home cooks across Cairo the chance to share their gastronomic skills with the rest of the city, has recently undergone several improvements and, with this latest award win, the future is only looking brighter for Yumamia.
