There’s something in the Cairo air at the moment; we can’t put our fingers on it. Maybe it’s the impending arrival of summer? Or maybe it’s just the prospect of another jam-packed weekend in Cairo! As per usual, there is no excuse to be bored this weekend.

Live music is a must on a Thursday night, and there’s no shortage of options for you. El Tanboura Hall brings you the folk sounds of Ismailyya’s El Waziry Group, while the Top Rat Hats and the Bluenotes are centre stage at Cairo Jazz Club. As if that wasn’t enough, Eftekasat, who continue to take Cairo by storm, are at El Sawy Culture wheel, and Sa7ara are at After Eight; choices, choices!

Supreme Council of Antiquities lectures are few and far between these days, but if you’re in Zamalek check out Joseph Cervelló Autuori talking about Saqqara’s Kom El Khamasin.

If you’re looking for something a little left of field, we personally recommend tonight’s last showing ‘They Told Me It’s Here’ mime play at Rawabet Theatre. ‘Emergency State’ is also wowing audiences at Ramsis’s Housaper Theatre, and is on till the end of the weekend. Artist Damon Kowarsky’s interpretion of Cairo makes for a unique exhibition that is a must see at Mashrabia Gallery.

After you’ve had a lay in on Friday, check out SODIC’s first art symposium featuring a huge range of talented artists from across the world and right here in Egypt. Mashroo’ Al Mareekh are giving anyone and everyone to showcase their talent, or lack of it! Alternatively, hit El Sawy Culturewheel for guaranteed talent in the form Wust El Balad, or Shady Ahmed and DJ Junior at Cairo Jazz Club. If you’re after something a little more traditional, the National Arab Music Ensemble and the Heritage Ensemble are at Cairo Opera House, and Awtaar Band are playing at El Sawy Culturewheel.

The Picasso Gallery is hosting the works of late artists Samir Rafea and Mahmoud Abdallah over the weekend, while the Caravan Festival of Arts contimues on till next Wednesday.

Make the last day of the weekend really count, as Cairokee perform at Cairo Jazz Club, and Fuego pay homage to the Gypsy Kings at After Eight on Saturday. There’s a lot to see and do at the Cairo Opera House too, as the Cairo Symphony Orchestra are on stage, while the Metropolitan Opera presents Richard Wagner’s classic ‘Die Walküre'.

Wow! Now catch your breath and get pro-active. Have a great weekend Cairo!
