Hello Cairo!

As we move into a wet, cold weekend, there are few things more comforting and warming than a jam-packed Cairo 360 weekend guide. As always, there’s plenty to keep you busy, with a host of gigs, parties, exhibitions and more.

We kick off Thursday with one of the more interesting events of the weekend at the Nasr City branch of Bikya, where Fayek Helmi, aka TheSkyis256k, will be armed with nothing more than a Gameboy as he serves up a night of inventively peculiar chiptune music.

Elsewhere, Amici favourite, DJ Mad Lou, is in control at the Zamalek branch for vocal house night, Deep Shifting, while comedy-music duo, High on Body Fat, get things started at Cairo Jazz Club before Screwdriver's mix of blues, funk and rock hits see the night out. Thursday at O Bar means it’s time for another riveting edition of House Arrest, where this week, DJ Klady & DJ George Knox are serving up the music.

Meanwhile, Zamalek bookshop, Sufi, hosts another Sufi Whirling performance, courtesy of Amer El Tuni, while Adam Miller, Shady Ahmed and Rashad Fahim combine their considerable jazz powers for a performance at Jazz Mate.

Cairo Opera House begins a two-day run of Mozart’s ‘The Magic Flute’ tonight and will also host a performance by Egyptian jazz pioneer, Yehia Khalil, while beloved musician and composer, Omar Khairat, will perform at 6th of October City’s MUST Opera House.

Friday sees Shady Ahmed return to the stage once more this weekend, as he performs first at new Maadi restaurant, Rocks, then at Al Kotob Khan – also in Maadi – as part of his ‘It Might Get Mellow' tour which marks the release of new album, Life is Hard For Those Who Dream. Just down the road – figuratively speaking – Bikya Maadi is revving up for a performance from Baheya Band.

Cairo Jazz Club welcomes DJ Misty and DJ Hafez for a night of hard-driving house, while the Cadillacs strut their knee-knocking 50’s and 60’s sounds at Jazz Mate and Talta Talet perform at After Eight.

Sufi will be screening Russian film, The Return, while Darb 1718 welcome Cairo’s most talented for another night of Mashrou3 Al Mareekh.

More local talent is on show on Saturday, with multi-talented singer-songwriter, Dina El Wadidi performing live at Sufi and El Dor El Awal and Ashara Gharby forming the line-up at Cairo Jazz Club.

Meanwhile Nūn Center’s Farmers Market returns, providing the freshest of produce, while Almaz in Mohandiseen hosts another Ladies’ Night and community group, Motafa2eloon meet at Bikya Nasr City for an open discussion and workshop.

Having started on Wednesday, furniture and interior design convention, Le Marche XXXIII, continues into the weekend at the Cairo International Convention Center in Nasr City, where the county’s best designers are showcasing their latest pieces.

New art this week comes courtesy of Darb 1718; EU funded project, Mashrou3 Hagar: (Art Empowers!), sees the work of several young artists showcased after participating in weeks of workshops and info sessions.

These are just a few of the parties, gigs and exhibitions taking place in Cairo over the next three days, so take a peek at the Cairo 360 events calendar for more and have a great, and hopefully dry, weekend.
