If there is one thing we women all have in common, it’s the experience of leaving the hair salon crying about our new disastrous haircut, and professing that we no longer have a reason to live after our hair was massacred by an Edward Scissor hands-type hairdresser. Cairo is definitely not short on hairdressers but finding a good one is still quite tricky. It’s tricky because you have to try one first to know whether he is good or not, which can result again in disastrous, tear-filled sessions. And that’s exactly why we at Cairo 360 are here to test and separate the good from the bad and the ugly.

Mango is located on Mohamed Mazhar Street right across from Cook Door. The owners were previously located on Ibn El Nabih Street where the shop was known as La Mia Vita. However, with the move also came a name swap. The shop isn’t very big with two washing stations and four chairs on the ground level. The top level has a room for treatments such as facials and makeup. The staff consists of two guys, Khaled (hairdresser) and Fadi (makeup artist/hairdresser) and a few girls who offer services like pedicures, threading and manicures.

Khaled is not just a hairdresser but more of a hair artist. He transforms your hair from frizzy to glamorous within a few minutes. His haircuts are also super-quick but oh so efficient. The best thing is he also knows how to handle short hair very well, whereas many other hairdressers in Cairo can only handle long hair. Haircuts cost 100LE and include blow-dry and styling. Or you could opt for blow-dry and styling for just 50LE. The hair salon mostly uses hair products by L’Oreal.

Aside from the excellent haircut and blow-dry, this reviewer tried the pedicure, which was swift and sufficient although more focus on the scraping would have been preferable. That being said, the polishing was neat. This reviewer also opted for the eyebrow threading (25LE), which might be a bit painful but works best in order to shape them. Manicures and pedicures both cost 30LE.

The prices of makeup depend on what kind of makeup you’re aiming for, and the brand products used are MAC, Chanel and Lancome.

Though other hairdressers might have bigger or fancier salons, in the end what matters is how your hair looks and feels. Try Mango; you’ll definitely not be disappointed.

Best bit
Khaled is a magician with hair.
Worst bit
Pedicures could do with being a bit more thorough.
360 Tip
Khaled's skills have won him many clients, and so you should definitely call ahead for an appointment.
