Hot Price: Modest Fashion for the Whole Family in Nasr City
Despite the ever growing shopping scene on the streets of Cairo, it’s always exciting to discover a new shop opening, especially in the popular and usually packed street of Abbas El Akkad. Hot Price is an impressive two-floor shop that offers a wide range of apparel for the whole family at very affordable prices.
Footwear and kids clothes make up the first floor, starting with a display of pointed flats in neutral solid colours of beige and white (55LE each) as well as more colourful shoes like floral ballet flats in coffee brown (64LE) and wedge sandals (95LE) that really stood out from other flat shoes and sandals with eye-catching designs
In the kids’ wear section, you can find items ranging for infants all the way to 10 year olds, and there is always a helpful assistant to guide you to the right size through rows of cute dresses and little overalls for babies with designs of flowers or delicate fabric embroidering, although you might find some misspellings if they include text. A pink half-sleeved overall in a size zero (20LE) was also available in other colours and it had a good fit and finish despite its heavy cotton fabric. A two piece pyjama set in one-year-old size is priced around 45LE, while tough straight-cut jeans for older kids start from around 115LE.
Going up to the second floor, we find the women’s fashion starting with sleeveless cardigans made with a light polyester fabric (95LE) and others with a sewn net design (45LE) in earthy tones like beige and greyish green. The everyday wear section also features long, flowing skirts with bold print on the hem, made with cool summery fabrics and priced around 60LE.
The women’s home wear and pyjama section consists more of sets and less of individual sweats and tops. However, there is one or two with good quality prints such as a short sleeved Snoopy blue top with black, loose cotton pants (85LE).
The men’s section is the quietest one and almost resembles a neat closet with nearly similar t-shirts hung on top of almost identical pants and shorts. The only thing that broke the monotony was a neon purple 80’s style shiny vest (85LE) hanging proudly in front of the polo shirts (85LE) which they have in every possible colour, as well as stylish chequered summer shorts (for 50LE).
Hot Price offers comfortable clothing for men, women and children at affordable prices, as well as stylish footwear for all. That being said, you may need to browse thoroughly through the many items available in order to come out with what you could call a good bargain.
Having been to Max's outlets in other Arab countries, this reviewer could hardly wait for its launch in Egypt. Offering cheap basics with an average quality, we hoped the brand's outlets in Egypt would live up to our expectations. Sadly, it didn't.
Once we stepped inside the shop’s branch in Wonderland Mall in Nasr City, we were taken aback by the flashy and over-the-top clothing.
We like to keep our outfits simple, but Max's clothing is anything but simple. From the brightly coloured accessories to the glittery outfits, we knew we wouldn't find what we were looking for.
To the left side of the shop, you’ll find the footwear and bags section. Our eyes first fell on a pair of bright neon ballet flats for 70LE. It would be quite a risk to wear such a colour on Cairo's streets. We also found knock-off Converse sneakers for 80LE. For 35LE, a pair of summery flip-flops are not completely stylish but wearable. Three pairs of thick ankle socks will set you back 35LE.
As you move forward into the shop, you can find the men's section. Shirts, shorts, belts and blazers; you name it, they've got it. Dress shirts are available for as little as 45LE. Knee-length cargo shorts are also on offer for 94LE. Polo shirts are also available for 29LE.
The women's wear section needs at least two hours for thorough browsing. Although at first glance it did seem that all items are way too colourful or glittery for this reviewer's taste, we managed to find a few items here and there that stick to the simpler side of things. For example, the orange and beige striped t-shirt was a bargain at 59LE.
Another good buy was the white maxi linen skirt (109LE). Polka-dotted and striped shirts are also available for 36LE. An adorable yet simple brown skirt sells for 115LE.
As for the excessively colourful designs, a pair of white leggings with blue and green roses costs 51LE. Another example is the bright yellow knee-length dress with purple, green and grey flowers.
Max also has a section for sleepwear and lingerie. Although they are not as simple in style as this reviewer would like, they are better than other items offered in the shop. Cute sets of pyjamas start at 69LE, while cosy purple cotton trousers cost 18LE.
The over-the-top trend continues with Max's accessories. A faux pearl necklace with a big pink rose will set you back 75LE, while a pair of fuchsia and golden dangly earrings sell for 35LE.
If you fancy doing a bit of shopping for your little ones, Max has one full floor dedicated to kids wear and accessories, including Disney-themed school bags for 139LE.
