Hello Cairo!

Time flies when you’re having fun, or even when you’re not, point is: it flies. It’s already March and as the days roll by so do the countless exhibitions, live performances and questionable parties. As loyal as a childhood dog, Cairo once again brings you a variety of ways to spend your precious weekend.

While some choose to hide away on a Thursday, thankful that the week is over, many more take the chance to strut their stuff around town. Said ‘strutters’ can be found scattered all around town this evening starting with LIV at Cavallini with DJ A.R at the decks, Y Lounge lures some partygoers in with another round of their interesting theme of Air Nights, and Roof Bar raises the roof with DJ Simon.

Live performances are quite a few this evening with De7ka band performing at Sufi; Screwdriver lead singer, Shahab Kassab, will perform solo at Indigo restaurant and making her debut appearance at Cairo Jazz Club, Maii Waleed joins forces with Massar Egbari for a jazzy take on today’s social issues. Jazz Mate offers some more jazz with an evening of ‘Live Jazz’.
Bikya Takes over C-Town celebrates the bookshop’s second anniversary over three days starting tonight at their Maadi branch, only to move onto different venues – check their Facebook event to stay informed.

Take a trip to the iconic Café Riche for a screening of Arabic film, ‘The Thug Factory’, or make your way to Darb 1718 for the launch of ‘Recording Against Regimes’; an exhibition of videos from Poland in the 1980s and Germany in the 1990s.

If you happen to wake up fresh and energetic on Friday morning then there are a lot of shopping opportunities to be taken advantage of spread all over the city. The Marriott hotel in Zamalek hosts a Spring Festival brought to you by Feminine Touch, while out in 6th October a Mother’s Day Carnival at Mall of Arabia helps you prepare for this special day. Perhaps Katameya Gardens Club is the more suitable destination for you, where they celebrate International Women’s Day with an Exelegant Bazaar; another bazaar in the area is Agora’s Mother’s Day Bazaar, taking place in the Mood Restaurant & Lounge. Take your chances and head to Semiramis Intercontinental where Our Wedding Carnival will help all the brides out there perfect their big day.
This evening, live entertainment comes in the form of Mashrou3 Al Mareekh, which takes over Darb 1718 for another edition of open-mic night, while Popol Gluant gives a quirky live performance at 100Copies Music Space.  Led by Karima Mansour, check out the Cairo Contemporary Dance Company as they showcase different styles of dance at Hanager Arts Center. For less live entertainment, Sufi will be screening fantasy film, ‘Pan’s Labyrinth’.
If you feel like moving and shaking, Tamarai brings another night of Top of the Pops, while Cairo Jazz Club welcomes DJ Mars and Amr Hosny to their decks and O Bar offers a smooth r&b night courtesy of DJs Feedo and Hook.

Heal your soul this Saturday from the woes of the weekend with a meditation session at Al Azhar Park, brought to you by Breathe-Energy-Health, or head to Sufi to learn about the properties of reflexology and its benefits at their Reflexology Lecture.
Cairo Flea Market joins the influx of bazaars that carry through the weekend with an event dedicated to Mother’s Day at Designopolis, while Nūn Center helps keep you healthy with another edition of their Farmer’s Market.

For some live music, Norient, aka Thomas Burkhalter, offers a trippy experience at 100Copies Music Space, while shaabi group, No Comment, are back in their slot at Downtown’s After Eight; Nubian singer, Basheer, will be at Cairo Jazz Club and El Sawy Culturewheel welcomes Omar Khairat to their stage.

The Amicis are going as strong as ever, with Greek Night and Wine & Fondue Night happening in the Heliopolis and Zamalek branches, respectively.

As always, the exhibitions are aplenty so check out the exhibition and editorial project, ‘The Magic of the State’, at Darb 1718 or see the female form through the eyes of Dessouki Fahmi’s collection, ‘EROS’, showing at Gallery Misr; Mostafa Abdel Moity pushes his boundaries with ‘Sculptures – Bronze’, exhibiting at Zamalek Art Gallery.

Remember, this is just a sample of all that’s happening this weekend, so be sure to check out the Cairo 360 events page for a full rundown of where to go and what to see. Go on, give it a click, we know you want to.

Have a happy weekend Cairo!
