Easter is almost here, which means that cinemas in Cairo will be expecting a flood of Arabic movies in the following weeks. In fact, it’s started pouring in already; in a matter of hours, three Arabic movies, including Bank El Hazz and Taaweeza Two, will start the Easter race – but that’s not our concern; we’re here for what Hollywood has to offers this week, which is not much, but it will do.

The Boss Baby

What’s it About? Based on a 2010 picture book of the same name written by Marla Frazee, this animation tells of a suit-wearing, briefcase- carrying baby, who teams up with his 7-year-old brother to stop the evil plot of the CEO of Puppy Co.

Why it Might Be Good: The bill has a list of all-time favourites doing the VOs; Alec Baldwin, Steve Buscemi, Lisa Kudrow, Tobey Maguire and Jimmy Kimmel. Also, this movie is not just another cinematic adaptation of a children’s book; if you take a closer look, you’ll find that the concept itself resonates with the current happenings in America.

Why it Might Be Bad: Although The Boss Baby can pass as ‘star-studded’, at least to an 80’s /90’s kid, its reviews have been so-so; it earned a 6.1 on IMDB and only 49% Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes. You’ve been warned.

Going in Style

What’s it About? Based on Martin Brest’s 1979’s movie of the same title, this comedy-crime reboot follows three seniors, who, having been lifelong pals, decide to rob a bank to make ends meet. Going in Style is directed by Zach Braff, who played J.D in the famous comedy TV series, Scrubs.

Why it Might Be Good: Well, it stars Academy Awards-winning actors, Morgan Freeman, Michael Caine and Alan Arkin, in addition to two nominees, Matt Dillon and Ann Margret; hopefully that means there will be some solid acting in Going in Style.

Why it Might Be Bad: Besides a number of TV movies, this reboot happens to be only Zach Braff’s third feature film, 2004’s Garden State and 2014’s Wish I Was Here, which earned mixed success. The bottom line is: we pray he gets it right this time. If all else should fail, at least there’s Morgan Freeman.

Stay tuned for showing times, reviews and more for this week’s new films, as well as others such as Power Rangers, Get OutLife and more, with the Cairo 360 Cinema Guide.
