There comes another Wednesday, which means a whole new range of new releases taking over Cairo’s many movie theatres. Personally, we believe that this batch doesn’t serve much; we have a couple of animations, a crime comedy, and a biopic.

Knives Out:

What is it about? This crime comedy follows debonair detective Benoit Blanc (Daniel Craig) as he investigates the death of a renowned crime novelist. To uncover the mystery, Blanc first has to deal with the deceased’s dysfunctional family and members of staff.

The good. Nothing beats the classic combination of crime, comedy, and mystery. Add a list of interesting names to the bill, such as Daniel Craig, Chris Evans, Toni Collette, and many others, and it might be on to a winner. Knives Out could be a treat for Agatha Christie and Arthur Conan Doyle fans, as it seems to serve their famous recipe but with a modern twist.

The Bad. A crime with too many suspects means tons of details and loads of lines to follow. If the filmmakers fail to capture the viewers’ attention from beginning to end, the whole thing falls into ruin.

Born a King:

What is it about: This biopic follows the coming-of-age story of the Arab prince, Faisal, as he embarks on a diplomatic mission to secure the formation of Saudi Arabia.

The good. It could be an interesting film to watch if you happen to be into politics, or history in general.

The bad. It’s understandable why Born a King’s bill doesn’t carry many big names from the industry – except for Ed Skrein. If a lack of familiar faces is a deal-breaker for you, then this one is not for you.

One Piece – Stampede:

What is it about? The Japanese fantasy animation follows pirates, who come from all around the world to participate in a well-known pirates festival. The story is based on a manga of the same name, written and illustrated by Eiichiro Oda – an anime lover would know the guy.

The good. With all honesty, this is not our cup of tea, but manga and anime fans, (and apparently they are many in Egypt) are rejoicing right now.

The bad. If you’re not an avid manga fan, like us, you’ll definitely have no idea what’s going on. We had a hard time trying to write anything about the movie.
