As avid classical music lovers, we miss the Cairo Opera House: one of the city’s most active venues, whose concerts have entertained us with many classics that cater to all fans of the genre. A couple of weeks ago, the venue announced it had suspended all events until the end of March, in a move to prevent the to the spread of Coronavirus (COVID – 19).

Sad news indeed. However, fans of classical music can still have their fix from home, thanks to Broadway’s Metropolitan Opera. They have launched a series called Nightly Met Opera Streams, in which the opera’s website, as well as the Met Opera on-demand app, will stream of a series of concerts from its collection. It’s free of charge, and in HD quality.

Streaming begins at 7.30 PM EDT, which is 1.30 AM on the next day in Cairo. Want to know what the opera has in store for the weekend? Well, on Friday at 1.30 AM, it’s Verdi’s La Traviata, which is based on Alexandre Demas Son’s classic novel, Lady of the Camellias.  On Saturday, the opera will stream Donizetti’s La fille du Régiment, while Sunday sees another classic by Donizetti, Lucia di Lammermoor, which is loosely based on Walter Scott’s historical novel, The Bride of Lammermoor
