We’ve entered Week 2 of Breast Cancer Awareness month. After covering Self-Exams and Mammograms last time, we’re now presenting a few of the non-profits and non-governmental organisations making significant contributions to Egyptian society. With missions of aiding low-income and disadvantaged women and their loved ones, these establishments are worth keeping an eye on:

Baheya Hospital
Located in Giza, the Baheya Hospital has diagnosed and treated women with breast cancer since 2015. Named after Baheya Wahby, the non-profit dedicates its resources to serving women from low-income families. Offering early detection, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, surgery, and psychological support services to patients free of charge, the hospital also performs research and medical training for graduates in related fields.

Egyptian Society of Women’s Health
This Dokki-based non-profit organisation, the Egyptian Society of Women’s Health, has provided community programmes, resources, imaging, and early detection since 2004. While advocating women’s health, ESWH trains up-and-coming technicians and physicians through workshops and conferences. With the goal of ensuring care for all, the organisation also provides free services for women with a history of physical assault.

CanSurvive
In 2009 the support group, CanSurvive, created a space for patients, survivors, family members, and friends to find solace in community. Designed as an educational resource for the various stages of breast cancer, CanSurvive also serves as a means of coping with the disease.
