How Egypt Is Preparing for the Opening of the Grand Egyptian Museum
GEM GEM Opening Global Event Grand Egyptian Museum
Cairo 360
For the past few years, the talk of the town — and by town, we mean the entire world — has been the Grand Egyptian Museum and when it will open its glamorous doors to visitors, both locals and visitors from abroad. And just like that, the time is almost upon us. The official opening will be on the 1st of November 2025, and the museum will open to all visitors a few days later.
The Infrastructural Upgrades Made in Preparation

In preparation for the Grand Egyptian Museum’s grand opening, Egypt has carried out extensive upgrades across the surrounding Giza area to ensure a seamless visitor experience. Roads leading to the museum have been repaved and landscaped with new lighting, green spaces, and improved accessibility.
A dedicated 1.2-kilometre pedestrian walkway now connects the museum to nearby parking zones, which can accommodate hundreds of buses and vehicles, as well as eco-friendly golf carts for on-site transport. Major infrastructure systems, including electricity, drainage, firefighting, and water networks, have been fully completed to support the museum’s massive operations.
To further ease visitor movement, new transport links, such as the Bus Rapid Transit system and sections of the Cairo Metro Line 4, are being developed to serve the museum area directly.
A TV Commercial Celebrating GEM

The production of a major TV commercial celebrating GEM’s opening is almost at its end. The commercial will feature some of the biggest Egyptian living legends, including Dr Magdi Yacoub, Farouk Hosny, and Khaled al-Anani.
The commercial will also feature scenes starring some of Egypt’s favourite young stars, including Ahmed Malek, Salma abu-Deif, Huda el-Mufti and more. It will also feature orchestra and dance performances. All of these aspects aim to showcase Egypt’s cultural impact.
Screens All Over Egypt

In anticipation of the Grand Egyptian Museum’s official opening on the 1st of November, 2025, Giza authorities have set up large outdoor screens across key public areas and main roads to allow residents to watch the ceremony live. This initiative is designed to make locals feel part of the historic event, offering them a front-row experience from their own neighbourhoods.
The screens have been placed in prominent locations, including Mustafa Mahmoud Square in Agouza, El Galaa Square in Dokki, near Cairo University, and throughout Imbaba, Badrashin, and Kerdasa.
The Exclusive Coins to Celebrate GEM

The Egyptian Cabinet has approved the minting of special edition gold and silver coins. These collectable pieces, issued in denominations ranging from 1 to 100 Egyptian pounds, will not enter regular circulation but will serve as keepsakes honouring this significant cultural milestone. The coins pay tribute to Egypt’s enduring heritage and will be launched ahead of the museum’s official opening on the 1st of November, 2025.
