Lan Noodles Review: Authentic Lanzhou Noodles Worth Trying in Maadi

If you’re looking for a comforting bowl of noodles that feels authentic and satisfying, Lan Noodles in Maadi deserves a spot on your foodie list. With its handmade Lanzhou noodles and warm atmosphere, this small restaurant has managed to stand out among the many Asian eateries in the area. Here’s what our visit was like.

The Atmosphere

Lan Noodles has a compact dining area, but that’s part of its charm. The restaurant feels cosy, clean, and welcoming, making it a great place for a casual lunch or dinner. The simple décor keeps the focus on the food, while the relaxed atmosphere makes it easy to settle in and enjoy your meal.

The Lanzhou Noodles

We ordered the restaurant’s signature Lanzhou noodles (EGP 288) and opted for the thicker noodle option. It turned out to be the right choice. The noodles had a satisfyingly chewy texture that held up well in the rich, flavourful broth. The soup delivered a deep umami flavour without feeling too heavy, making it comforting from the very first spoonful. The slices of beef were tender and well cooked, while the braised egg (EGP 40) added another layer of flavour with its subtle soy sauce seasoning. Although tasty, we wished the yolk had been a little softer and gooier.

The Pan-Fried Dumplings

The pan-fried dumplings (EGP 328) were another highlight of the meal. The generous portion is easily enough for two people to share. Each dumpling had a golden, crispy bottom with a soft, fluffy exterior that contrasted beautifully with the juicy filling. The combination of seasoned meat and carrots was simple yet delicious, making these an excellent side dish alongside the noodles.

The Service

Despite the restaurant’s small size and limited number of staff, the service was friendly, attentive, and efficient. The team made sure our order arrived promptly and was happy to answer questions about the menu, creating an enjoyable dining experience from start to finish.

Lan Noodles delivers exactly what it promises: authentic, comforting noodle dishes in a relaxed setting. Whether you’re already a fan of Chinese cuisine or simply looking to try something different in Maadi, this cosy restaurant is well worth a visit.

360 Tip

Order the thicker noodles, as they have a better texture and hold the broth much more effectively.

Best Bit

The standout feature of Lan Noodles is undoubtedly its rich, comforting broth, which ties the entire dish together beautifully.

Worst Bit

Our only disappointment was the braised egg, as we expected a softer, runnier centre.
