This lecture will look at the Gurob Harem Palace Project; an ongoing investigation of the urban
and funerary remains at Medinet El-Gurob, a ‘harim town’ in the Fayoum
region of Northern Egypt. The site has been identified with textual
references to the town of Mer-wer (‘great channel/canal’), which was
established by Thutmose III as a royal ‘harim’, and
appears to have flourished until the late Ramessid period.
