Reading as a hobby can sometimes feel lonely if you don’t have a community to share it with. Book clubs are a perfect cosy way to come together with like-minded people and have a constructive discussion about a loved book. Here are five book clubs around Cairo so you can share your favourite hobby to your heart’s content.

The Unreliable Narrators Book Club

If you’re looking for a fresh book club with unpopular books, you’re in luck. The Unreliable Narrators will hold its first meeting in September, and the discussion will centre on The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath. Alaa, the creator of The Unreliable Narrators club, made a couple of reels explaining why she started it and why she’s kicking off with The Bell Jar. Check out the club’s Instagram to be part of it from the moment of its inception.

Sunshine and Stories Book Club

Sunshine and Stories is calling every Cairo book girl to join. They read two books a month and meet on the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays of each month to discuss the books they have read. The selection of books can be English or Arabic. They are currently looking for new members to join, so run don’t walk to their Instagram to secure your spot.

Diwan Book Club

Diwan Bookstore holds several book clubs across its branches. The discussions taking place at each branch are about different books. Sometimes, a book signing accompanies the conversation, and it’s always a plus to get the author’s perspective. They also sometimes host external book clubs. Make sure to follow their Instagram to keep up to date.

Bibliothek Egypt Book Club

Bibliothek Egypt in Arkan Sheikh Zayed also has a book club, and it’s something very different every time, from Ali Hazelwood to Nora Nagi, and Bae Suah. No matter what your reading taste is, you will find your people in addition to their fantastic coffee and pastries. Check their Instagram to catch their next meeting.

Toqa’s Book Club

Toqa is an amazing booktoker. A year ago, she felt unfulfilled talking only through a screen, so she took the initiative and started her own book club. Now, she can share her love of books in a more intimate and rewarding way. The book club takes place every month at La Maison Tre13e. The book of the month and registration details are always announced on her TikTok and Instagram.
