Last year, we posted about the 4th edition of the CairoComix Festival, which had taken place at the Mahmoud Mokhtar Museum. The event, founded in 2015, returns once again this year, where the comics scene in Egypt will be explored for the fifth time.

According to its Facebook page, “CairoComix Festival is about the evolution of the independent art movement in Egypt, and more broadly the Middle East and North Africa, where comics, as a popular medium, have many synergies with other creative art forms like street art, animation cinema, video art, and graphic design.”

Throughout the 3-day event, from the 1stto the 3rd of November, artists from various backgrounds and expertise will join together at the same venue as last year to display and celebrate the production of comics. Moreover, local and international artists will be awarded prizes, including Best Published Graphic Novel in Arabic.

Among the honoured guests attending are American artist, Paul Pope; Lebanese artist, Tracy Chahwan; and the iconic Khaled Alsafty, the creative genius behind the all-time favourite Egyptian comic book, Flash. In addition, collaborating organisations and supporters of the event consist of the American University of Beirut (AUB), The French Institute in Cairo, The 9th Art, and more.

Check out this video of some of the best and most exciting moments from last year’s festival. It’s a must-see!
