Egypt has a rich and diverse artistic heritage that spans thousands of years, from ancient art to its rich contemporary art. So, it should come as no surprise when the hub for art and creativity that is Downtown Cairo was selected as the location for the Cairo International Art District (CIAD) exhibition by Art D’Egypte. It’s a strategic location that will shine a light on not only the art but the artists themselves. The exhibition revolves around an immersive artistic experience where you can walk to different locations, between art galleries and cultural spaces, each with a unique set of art pieces.

Cairo is home to numerous modern and contemporary art galleries and cultural institutions that promote the thriving scene. The arts scene in Egypt is dynamic and constantly evolving, with new artists, galleries, and initiatives that contribute to the cultural landscape of the country. But one thing remains unchanged: Downtown Cairo continues to be the beating heart of Egyptian art, from its inception in the 19th century to today.

CulturVator and Art D’Egypte have graced us with another year of CIAD, which began on October 10th and will continue until October 30th, daily from 12:00 pm till 9:00 pm except Mondays. Concurrently, Forever is Now at the Giza pyramids will also celebrate its third edition this year. It will be open starting October 26th and will play host to a remarkable art and design festival.

The locations for the immersive art experience of CIAD are as follows: the entire Cinema Radio complex on Talaat Harb Street, Access Art Space, the Hangar, and the corridor next to the radio complex. Nadine Abdel Ghaffar, founder of CulturVator and Art D’Egypte, clarifies the importance of the location for the annual exhibition: “Not only does the area have a history that extends back to the nineteenth century and buildings conceived by the most famous architects of the time, but it has also recently become one of the most important centres of art and creativity in Egypt and a destination for art lovers, collectors, and enthusiasts.”

This year’s Art District explores how historical periods in the arts scene have nurtured conversations around up-and-coming forms of visuality through the years, with artists coalescing different eras in their work, exploring past methods through new language and testing a mix of discourse. CIAD is on a mission to engage the public with art and encourage them to examine different artistic practices from different times and cultures, while contemplating the beauty that lies within, surrounded by like-minded people in the heart of Cairo.
