TINTERA art gallery is hosting film director Ahmad Abdalla’s first exhibition titled “Deceiving Time”. The exhibition explores the concept of time as Abdalla dips into his photography archives from 2010 to 2021 and questions the order in which one assigns images from recollection.

Co-founded by Zein Khalifa and Heba Farid in 2019, TINTERA is a photographic consultancy with a gallery space in Cairo and an office in London. The gallery’s main aim is to raise awareness and exposure of contemporary and historic photography of Egypt through events, exhibitions, and research projects. At the forefront of the galleries are Egyptian artists who use Egypt as their main source of inspiration for their work.

The gallery has hosted many other group and solo exhibitions by international and local artists and has also participated in two international art fairs, successfully placing works in private and public collections. It also acts as a mentor to budding artists, as well as helping established artists push through their way to popularity through overseeing the publication of their books and managing their estates. The gallery also has a growing library of photography-related books accessible to all visitors and holds a small archive of historical photographs that is available for viewing. Being an integral part of independent cinema in the Arab world, Ahmad Abdalla studied classical music before moving onto his current field: film directing. Some of his most notable films are Heliopolis (2009), Microphone (2010), Rags and Tatters (2013) and Decor (2015). Not only this, but Abdalla also won many awards at the Dubai and Cannes Film Festivals, as well as the Golden Antigone Prize at the Cinema Film Festival of Montpellier, the Golden Tanit Prize in Journées Cinématographiques de Carthage, and the Golden Tulip at the Istanbul International Film Festival. Quite the mouthful! He is currently working on a new feature film that he wrote and is directing with the working title 19B: produced by Mohamed Hefzy.
