For the Month of Women: Egyptian Female Foodies that Influenced the Scene

After a long, aching battle with society at large, women have finally earned the awaited celebration they deserve. Even though you should celebrate the women in your life every day, because they seriously go through a lot, there came a month that centred on women, showing the world’s appreciation for them and giving them the support they fought for.

Granted, women shouldn’t have had to go through the lengthy process of gaining their fundamental rights, but c’est la vie—the past will be left in the past. To sustain the cheerful note, we celebrate all women, but this article focuses specifically on those in Cairo who have greatly influenced the food scene!

Malak’s Food Journey

Known for adopting healthy alternatives to recipes, Malak Shouman is a food blogger that promotes having a good relationship with food and developing her own recipes. Malak used to hate food and cry at restaurants when she was a kid. However, now her Instagram feed is all about food and the ways with which you can nourish your body. She also keeps her Instagram fun, posting Salad Sunday every week and a Friday poll game as well! You can check her out on Instagram here.

Foodista Egypt

Aya and Alaa El Garhy are sisters who share a love for food, with their shared page including food photography, reviews, and recipe development. Foodista also vouches for healthy living, while the pair regularly go out and about to try the hidden gems in Cairo, as well as the most popular foods to see whether it’s actually worth the hype. They don’t stop at this—the sisters also review supermarkets and share tips on making the most out of your grocery shopping experience. You can also check them out on Instagram here

Sarah Nashaat

Certified chef and recipe developer, Sarah Nashaat cooks delicious Egyptian and international dishes, pushing the idea that cooking is a skill that anyone can learn! Her food is complex in flavour but easy to make, as she provides her audience with a step-by-step tutorial on how to cook certain dishes. Her recipes are a must-try, so check Sarah’s Instagram page

May Yacoubi

Our favourite TV chef and host, May Yacoubi, revolutionised the food scene in Cairo, specifically on social media, through which she teaches her followers recipes as she makes them through her Instagram stories. She transforms an intricate dish into a simple one by breaking down the steps, so they’re easy to follow. May also develops recipes for dishes that people rarely make at home and usually opt to order instead, as she also believes that cooking is an acquired skill! Check her out on Instagram here.
