Lebanese designer, Zuhair Murad paid homage to Ancient Egypt at Paris Couture Week with his latest spring 2020 line that brought Cleopatra back to life. The collection is stocked with ancient Egypt’s signature collars, along with falcons, scarabs, tombs, and hieroglyphs embroidered on various pieces.

The bridal design features a bejewelled headdress on top of a heavily-embellished white gown, but Murad is not the only designer intrigued by our timeless heritage. French luxury house, Givenchy preceded him in Paris Fashion Week Fall 2016 with a psychedelic take on Ancient Egyptian motifs, which included the iconic Eye of Horus.

Murad did not hold back in the gold department and splurged with capes, gowns, skirts, and shorts. A few of the pieces were uniquely sequined with blue, red, and white beads, while most were coupled with open-toed gold or black sandals, and knee-high gladiator straps. The collection journeyed through silk, satin, and chiffon, like a graceful boat on the river Nile. Murad elegantly shifted between shoulder-padded nude gowns, blue sequined dresses with thigh-high slits, to two-pieced black garments and a colourful spectrum of minidresses.

Slip into one of Murad’s designs, and you’ll truly know how to walk like an Egyptian!
