There are a lot of contemporary styles of music, such as techno, house, and trance. With the constant factor of change and modernisation in our lives, we should always hang on to what was – and still is – considered precious and a pure, authentic sound of the people, particularly spiritual music and chanting. Both musical artforms are similar versions of singing religious prayers or simple tunes, sometimes performed in harmonized choral arrangements.

Celebrating this genre, Egypt hosts the International Samaa’ Festival for Spiritual Music and Chanting, which will commence on the 21st of September. Under the sponsorship of the Ministry of Culture, the festival will last until the 27th of September, during which time the event will gather the eclectic talents of singers from all over the world. A time when the true beauty of chanting and spiritual music can truly be recognised and appreciated, just as we have done throughout the past 11 consecutive years.

The visionary behind the festival is the founder, president, and artist, Intisar Abdelfattah. He has travelled to countless countries and participated in several international festivals as a director, researcher, and jury member; from France, Italy, India, and South Korea, to Kenya, and Algeria. You can learn more about him via this link.

Finally, the International Samaa’ Festival for Spiritual Music and Chanting will take place at some of Cairo’s largest venues, such as Salah El-Din Citadel, El Ghouri Dome, Muez Street, and Mogamaa AlAdyan (The Complex of Religions).
