If you’ve ever dreamed of turning your creative spark into a craft that stands the test of time, here’s your chance. The Jameel House of Traditional Arts in Cairo has just opened applications for its prestigious two-year programme, and it’s all about preserving Egypt’s artistic heritage while giving new talent the skills to shape its future.
A Creative Journey in the Heart of Old Cairo
Tucked away in Fustat, Cairo’s historic district, the Jameel House is more than just a school; it’s a sanctuary for craftsmanship. Founded in 2009 by Community Jameel, The King’s Foundation School of Traditional Arts, and Egypt’s Cultural Development Fund, the centre is dedicated to reviving and sustaining the traditional arts that have been passed down through generations.
What You’ll Learn
Only about 20 spots are available, making the programme highly sought-after. Successful applicants will dive deep into geometry, drawing, colour harmony, and arabesque design, while also getting hands-on training in ceramics, glass, gypsum, metalwork, and woodwork.
It’s not just about skills; it’s about mastering the principles and history behind these crafts, learning the same standards taught at The King’s Foundation School of Traditional Arts’ London campus.
A Career Rooted in Tradition
Graduates will not only leave with a certificate but will also join a thriving community of alumni, many of whom showcase their work at the annual alumni fair. From heritage conservation and architectural restoration to working in the creative industries or becoming independent artisans, the paths are as diverse as the crafts themselves.
Who Can Apply
The programme is open to anyone aged 18 and over, with no previous qualifications required. All you need is talent, dedication, and a portfolio that reflects your passion. Better yet, students attend on a full scholarship, with tuition and materials completely covered.
How to Apply
Applications are open now and close on 24 August 2025. To apply, submit your completed application form here and portfolio in person at the Jameel House in Cairo, located in the Fustat Traditional Crafts Centre, between Sunday and Thursday, 10:00 am to 3:00 pm. Shortlisted candidates will move on to an entry exam and interview.
This isn’t just an art course, it’s a chance to be part of Egypt’s living heritage. Whether you’re looking to start a career in the arts or simply want to master a traditional craft, the Jameel House is ready to welcome its next generation of makers.
