Looking to get more in touch with your creative side? Art offers us an escape from the hustle and bustle of daily life in Cairo, where you can spend a relaxing day alone or with friends. Even if you’re not the next Picasso in the making, it’s a great opportunity to pick up a new skill and have fun. We’ve found some of the best places in Cairo to get your hands dirty:

Brush It @brushitart

Beautiful views, the wind in your hair and your favourite drinks delivered right to you; now that’s the perfect afternoon! Brush It offers Paint ‘n Sip events across Cairo in areas like 5A By The Waterway or next to the Pyramids. This experience is ideal for total newbies at painting. Artists guide you step by step to create your own one-of-a-kind painting that you get to bring home. It’s also a great place to socialise over drinks and snacks they provide. You can reserve your spot for upcoming events on their website, and classes are around EGP 600-650.

Il Pennello Ceramic Cafe @ilpennello_eg

Add a little bit of creativity to your regular coffee date at this ceramic cafe. Aside from the usual food and drinks, they also sell a variety of ceramic objects in all different shapes and sizes. Customers can pick out their favourite and then get a palette of colours to dip their brushes in. Once your masterpiece is done, the cafe keeps it for a few days to be put in their kiln and then it’s yours to pick up. You can visit one of their locations in Maadi, Heliopolis, or Mohandeseen. Prices range based on the size of the ceramic piece.

Fokhara Pottery @fokhara_studio

If painting isn’t enough, you can take a shot at making your own ceramics. Located in New Cairo, Fokhara offers pottery classes and workshops that allow people to connect with their art.

You can start with a “handbuilding workshop” for EGP 500, or invest in longer courses like a 3-week themed course for EGP 1,100. Founder Dalia Mobasher also sells ready-made ceramic products as well as tools and materials.

Candle Making @amcandl

Capture your own signature scent with a personalised candle. Amcandles sell their hand-poured scented candles, and now they’re giving you the opportunity to create your own. On Saturdays, they host candle making workshops at KMT House in Maadi. The interactive experience lets you make your candle from start to finish and then decorate them with customised stickers.

Art Cafe @artcafeegypt

For anything from calligraphy to cake decoration, the Art Cafe is the perfect place for Cairenes to dive into their passion for creating art. With locations in Maadi and Sheikh Zayed, this art centre has a large team of professionals that specialise in different art disciplines. There are classes for both kids and adults, and prices vary based on classes and duration.
