For decades now, Ramadan shows have become a staple. It’s the season that all showrunners wait for to showcase the best they can do. To us, the audience, it can’t get better! We know we have hours of new forms of entertainment waiting for us. This year is no different! Our TV has been overwhelmed with the trailers and announcements lately, and with the dozens of new shows set to premiere during the sacred month, we can get a bit overwhelmed. So what do we watch? Because we certainly can’t watch everything at the same time.

We’ve compiled a list of the top shows we’re most excited about!

Al-Kabeer Season 6

It has been six years since Ahmed Mekky returned with a new season of our favourite sitcom. So, when it was announced that the cast is returning with the sixth season for Ramdan 2022, we couldn’t be happier! Especially after we saw the satirical snippet mimicking the most famous Netflix show of 2021—Squid Game.

Al-Ikhtiyar Season 3

After two successful seasons, the director Peter Mimi returns with a third season covering yet another period of Egypt’s recent history. Like the first two seasons, the show features an ensemble cast. Other than previous actors like Ahmed al-Sakka and Karim Abdel Aziz, Yasser Galal and Sabry Fawaz will be joining the cast.

Ahlam Sa’eda (Good Dreams)

Another show we’re super excited about is the female-led Ahlam Sa’eda. Following three middle-aged women, played by Youssra, Ghada Adel, and Mai Kasab, the show focuses on the problems of insomnia and their trials to overcome them.

Faten Amal Harby

Ramadan wouldn’t be the same without a rich Nelly Kareem performance in a socially brilliant show, would it? Faten Amal Harby is a social drama centralising around the life of Faten, a governmental worker, and the difficult relationship she has with her mother-in-law, which makes life with her husband nearly impossible.

Hagma Mortda (Counterattack)/Al-Aa’don men Daa’sh (Those returning from Isis)

As the director doesn’t intend for the show to be a mere sequel to the 2021 Hagma Mortda, the production team has changed the title to Al-Aa’don men Daa’sh. Starring Amir Karrara, Mohamoud Abd El-Ghany, and Amina Khalil, the action-drama deals with terrorism in the Arab region and the Egyptian forces fighting it.
