Celebrating the art of videomaking, which, in turn, celebrates nearly every other form of art; Medrar’s Cairo Vedio Festival returns for another round, serving a colourful batch of videos and artworks by a long list of artists from all over the globe.
Scheduled to take place from the 9th till the 30th of September, the 9th edition of the Cairo Video Festival will include 101 artworks that were produced after January 2017. According to the event’s official Facebook page, videos will be screened and installed across the city, presenting most-recent global video art and low-budget experimental film productions.
So far, the festival has received 783 video submissions, from which 76 were chosen from more than 30 countries. The festival’s programme also comprises several activities, including workshops, performances and an art exhibition. You can check it all out on the festival’s website.
The Selection and Programmers Committee includes Ahmed Refaat, Alaa Abdelhamid, Islam Kamal, Mai Elwakil, Mona Gamil, Sarrah Abdelrahman and 96 negatives. Garden City’s art gallery Medrar is the organiser of the event, with the support of the British Council, the Danish Egyptian Dialogue Institute (DEDI), the French Institute, and the Swiss Arts Council.
