The day all bookworms around Cairo have been waiting for is here, the Cairo International Book Fair 2019 has finally commenced. This is the 50th Edition of the Book Fair, and we’ve all been anticipating the Golden Jubilee and looking forward to the activities in place to commemorate this huge milestone.
Hosted at the Egypt International Exhibition Center in New Cairo, the League of Arab States (Arab League) is the guest of honour in this event, in addition to Tharwat Okasha and Soheir Al-Qalamawy as the VIP guests of honour of the exhibition.
Aside from the tons of shops and kiosks selling a diverse array of books, you can also attend different cultural workshops. El-Zaiton Bookstore is hosting Anis El-Refaie Warshet at 7 pm, where the author will talk about his projects and his experiences.
In addition, the Future Forum for Thought & Creativity is hosting a seminar to discuss the poem Yadeh Al-Akhira, by Mohamed Al-Hamamsy, in the Khaled Mohy El-Din library today at 7 pm. The poem will be reviewed by critic Dr Yousry Abdallah, and critic and poet Gamal Al-Qasas, and will be moderated by poet Atef Abdelaziz. You can learn more about the full activities here.
The little ones are also going to get their share of fun. The Book Fair is divided into different sections, with a whole section devoted to kids’ books and their activities. Such activities include art workshops such as drawing, crafts, and even mosaic and ceramic work, while others include cultural and behavioural workshops for the little ones to learn some important skills. Cairo International Book Fair is one of the biggest book fairs in the Middle East, and this edition is bound to be special. Don’t miss out on visiting it at least once, it runs from today, 22 January until 5 February.
