You’d have to be living under a rock not to have noticed it; your social media game must be pretty poor if you haven’t at least seen the posts on your feeds – we speak of this year’s Cairo International Film Festival, which has this year been an its glamorous best in celebration of film as art and industry.

Taking place at Cairo Opera House, the 39th edition of CIFF has made quite a splash, with an eventful opening ceremony that will saw Egyptian sweetheart, Asser Yassin, flex his undeniable charm and charisma to his role as the Master of Ceremony.

But he of course wasn’t the only big name at the glam-packed night, with Liz Hurley being one of several stars to grace the red carpet, as well as other big names from Egypt and the Arab world.

But no red carpet is complete without the grandest of fashion statements and apparently, an undercover squad of ‘fashion police’ have been patrolling this year’s carpet under the rouse of hosting the fashion segment. Superstar designer, Yasmin Yeya, former editor-in-chief of Clue, Suzanne Thabet, and DMC presenter, Noha Abdelaziz, have been on hand to deconstruct and fawn over this year’s best dressed.

But the festival has been peppered with some other memorable features and moments, not least Naader Hamdy’s stunning medley of classic movie themes, while this year, the festival has done its part in raising awareness of gender rights with a seminar discussing violence against women.

Having debuted in 1976, CIFF is the only international competitive feature film festival in the area that is accredited by the International Federation of Film Producers Associations (FIAPF), which regulates some of the world’s most prestigious Festivals, including Cannes Film Festival and Berlin Film Festival.
