With the world heading to a greener and more waste-less approach, it’s only fair that we see a shift from plastic and paper packaging to more sustainable packaging solutions. What is very interesting about the matter is the development of creative ideas throughout the years; from bamboo straws to edible cutlery – the possibilities were endless. But, perhaps one of the best inventions of all is the edible espresso cups; they save the environment and are delicious too! Made from cookie dough, those mini bites of heaven let you enjoy your coffee and get a treat in the end without harming our beloved mother earth.
This edible cookie cup was seemingly the creation of a Venezuelan designer named Enrique Luis Sardi for Lavazza, the famous Italian coffee company. Sardi made the cup using a cookie for the outside and a unique patented sugar icing on the inside with a dual purpose – it creates an insulator for the cookie and adds sweetness to the coffee at the same time. Other famous names experimented by substituting the sugar inside with chocolate, but that doesn’t work well with hot drinks. Regardless of who did it first, we are so happy this invention made it all the way to Egypt by none other than Dirty Cookie so we can try it out for ourselves.
Dirty Cookie has rocked the dessert scene with many colourful, tasty, creative inventions surrounding the “cup” idea. You can find cookie coffee shots with various flavours like churro, pistachio, red velvet, Lotus, double-chocolate, and strawberry. You automatically get a milk filling of your choice, but you would pay extra to get a speciality filling like marshmallow fluff or whipped cream. You can fill up your cookie cup with delicious ice cream flavours like Madagascar vanilla and cookie butter – and the best part is that you can also choose the flavour of your coffee cup. Give them a try at their Garden 8 branch in New Cairo, or if you’re heading to Sahel, head up to Marassi Clubhouse and get yours now.
