Two weeks ago, we shared with you Zuhair Murad’s latest collection that celebrated Ancient Egypt with a trail of magnificent gowns carrying various ancient Egyptian motifs and patterns. This time around, we’re doubly proud to see our heritage finding its way to the spotlight again, and this time it shines in the shape of Azza Fahmy’s jewellery.

The Egyptian designer’s affinity for local heritage shows in almost all of her pieces, since the establishment of her brand in 1969. While recent creations lean towards a more modernised approach, you can still trace a motif or two that captures the essence of traditional Egyptian arts.

Back to the Vanity Fair Oscars after-party. Several actresses wore pieces by Azza Fahmy to complete their looks, including Men in Black: International star, Tessa Thompson, and High School Musical 3’s Vanessa Hudgens, who wore a pair of earrings that have ‘Love’ and ‘Endearment’ written on them in Arabic.

Also wearing Azza Fahmy earrings with Arabic calligraphy was none other but Scandal’s Kerry Washington, whose pair has the word ‘Joy’ written on them. Washington also chose a gown from Murad’s aforementioned collection, gracefully walking into the party like an Egyptian.
