In early 2022, the Cairo Governorate, in collaboration with the UN Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat), embarked on its ambitious journey to unveil the Cairo Bike Project. Injecting energy into the streets of Downtown Cairo, this project is more than just a ride; it’s a visionary scheme aimed at steering the city towards sustainability and championing environmental protection, with the overarching goal of inspiring everyone to embrace the freedom of cycling through the captivating streets of Cairo.

For the affordable rate of just EGP 5 per hour, individuals can now rent a bicycle easily. Situated in the heart of downtown Cairo, the project was established in five key locations, including Tahrir, Mohamed Farid, and Abdel-Moneim Riyad Squares, as well as El-Falaki and Abdel-Khaleq Tharwat Streets.

Revolutionising urban mobility, the project initially launched with 250 bicycles positioned across 26 stations in Cairo’s busiest districts. This network provides a sustainable and stylish mode of transportation, offering a refreshing alternative for navigating the city. Accessing these rides is a breeze thanks to a user-friendly mobile application or convenient prepaid cards. Additionally, each bicycle is equipped with a GPS tracker, ensuring a seamless and secure riding experience.
