Want to have fun this summer without breaking the bank? Cairo is home to tons of things to do that won’t empty your wallet. Here are some ways to have fun for less than EGP 70:

Have a Picnic

Sunshine, snacks, and someone special. A picnic is a great way to enjoy the day with friends or a cute spot for a date. And best of all, it’s free! There are places all over Cairo to spread out your blanket, like Al Horreya Garden in Zamalek and Al-Azhar Park. Those who live in a compound don’t even need to leave home since they have tons of grassy spots inside.

See The Pyramids of Giza

Not everyone is lucky enough to have one of the world’s seven wonders in their backyard. So take the chance to go and explore your heritage and even get a cute new souvenir. For the low price of EGP 40 for adults and EGP 20 for students, you can spend the day at one of the most popular tourist attractions on Earth.

Go to a Museum

The Egyptian Museum, the Middle East’s oldest archaeological museum, costs EGP 30 for adults and EGP 10 for students. You can spend hours admiring historical artefacts like the statues of the great kings Khufu, Khafre, and Menkaure and check out their jewellery collection, papyri, and sarcophagi. You can also visit the mummies who moved into their new home at The National Museum of Egyptian Civilization for EGP 60, and students get half off. The recently opened museum is located in the ancient city of Fustat, which is now Ein Elsira, Cairo.

View an Art Exhibition

Art lovers can rejoice knowing that Cairo is filled with galleries and exhibitions, and the best part is most of them are free to enter. The Cairo International Art District is comprised of several spaces in Downtown Cairo, including Kodak Passage, Cinema Radio, The Factory, The Factory Annex, 6 Shops, Access Art Space, and 36 Abdel Khalek Tharwat Street Shop. Visitors can see paintings, sculptures, installations, and more from global and local artists.

Go to Wadi Degla Protectorate

The entry fee for one person is only EGP 3, and you can enter with your car or on foot. Located in Zahraa El Maadi, this open desert area is the perfect place for a BBQ, hiking, camping, biking and more. If you’re not feeling adventurous, you can go just to enjoy the beautiful scenery and fresh air.
