Hello Cairo!

With the Halloween celebrations out of the way, the long working week has given us time to recover and recharge for yet another, event-filled weekend.

Thursday night gets off to a promising start, with Alchemy getting us squiffy at A Tequila Tale of Silver & Gold, while sister bar, Cairo Jazz Club, host local band, Messar Egbari. By-passing the curfew, After Eight are holding a lock-in, complete with Sahara and a DJ for afterhours. Over at the Clubhouse in Mokattam, byGanz presents Djing duo ToyBoys and a few of their friends for a night of utter madness. Elsewhere, Cairokee combine great music with an even better cause at a charity event at AUC New Cairo. Rocky blues band, Screwdriver, strum the night away at elusive nightspot Overtime, and the Nile Maxim invites party-goers to their aptly named, deep house, Deeply event. If you’re looking for something a little more low-key, ElVenue are hosting a karaoke night, while Artellewa is screening ‘Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore’.

As usual, Friday is a little thin on events. However, Photopia is set on hosting a lecture exploring ‘Advertising and Visual Creativity’, and you can always mooch around the citiy’s art exhibitions; ‘Ugly Feelings’ at Townhouse, ‘This is a Dream Come True‘ at Mashrabia, ‘Moving Forward’ at Picasso, ‘Spectral Days‘ at the Gypsum Gallery or Asmaa Genidi’s exhibition at Arthropologie.

Saturday sees local favourite Basheer performing at Cairo Jazz Club, British diva Ellie of London performing at Jazz Mate, and Alexandrian band Shaware3na taking to the stage of Falaki Theatre. Alchemy pull out those lethal, vodka infused tomato juices once again to prove there really is ‘Something Bloody About Mary’ – you’ll most certainly feel like there is in the morning. Balcon Lounge hosts an evening of progressive rock music at ‘Euphoric Laughing’, whilst Otium invite Cairo’s dames and their chaperones to ladies’ night.

Remember, this is only a snippet of what’s on offer; if you’re still unconvinced of  something to do, check the Cairo 360 events calendar for further inspiration. Happy weekend, Cairo!
