Another weekend is beckoning and while Sahel is ‘where it’s at’ right now – whatever ‘it’ may be – there’s still plenty going on in Egypt’s capital in terms of live music, parties and events, including a typically busy Thursday night.

We begin at Cairo Jazz Club, where live music is the order of the day, with local rockers, Bluezophrenia and Screwdriver, set to perform. There’s more live music over at Garden City, meanwhile, where experimental post-rock band, Telepoetic, perform at ROOM Art Space.

Meanwhile, a busy weekend for El Genaina Theatre sets sail with unique band, Saleeb Sufi, which brings together Coptic and Sufi cultures into one unique sound. Elsewhere, Salalem perform at Downtown’s After Eight and Fairmont Nile City’s Saigon Restaurant & Lounge welcomes Hisham Blues.

If DJs are your preferred apparatus of music, there’s plenty for you, too, starting at the Royal Maxim Palace Kempinski’s 3 AM welcoming DJ Feedo and the Tap Maadi hosting DJ Samba.

On Friday, one of the biggest live music events of the weekend is actually three events; El Genaina Theatre at Al Azhar Park welcomes Egyptian-Lebanese indie-pop duo, Maii and Zeid, for three back-to-back gigs on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Elsewhere, enduring local band, Eftekasat, perform at Zamalek’s 3elbt Alwan, and oud player, Aly Eissa, takes to the stage at ROOM Art Space, while Basheer brings his Nubian-inspired sounds to After Eight.

A big night at Cairo Jazz Club awaits, meanwhile, with a ‘Ladies Edition’ of House Obsession set to welcome DJs DeerailedFairouz T and Mayounah. Alternatively, there’s live music at the Tap in Maadi, where rockabilly rollers, the Cadillacs, make a long-awaited return.

Things are a little quieter on Saturday as usual, byt there’s still plenty to sink your teeth into, including Eftekasat’s second gig in as many days, this time at Cairo Jazz Club. Over in Maadi, singer-songwriter, Danny Malak, winds down the weekend, while Heliopolis club, Cavallini, welcomes DJs Loupa and Fery for this week’s edition of SWAG.

At the other end of the music scale, Wikalet El Ghouri in El Hussein hosts the magical music and traditional dance of El Ghouri Tannoura Dance Group. If you really want to take it easy, though, head over to ROOM Art Space for their new weekly Board Games Night.

These are, of course, just a few of the events across Cairo this weekend – check out the Cairo 360 events calendar for more. Happy weekend, y’all!
