Hey there, Cairo. Now, we could begin with some kind of small-talk intro touching on various topical subject (the Olympics, Sahel, the weather, maybe?) but why don’t we all just dive into what is looking like a busy weekend.

We begin on Thursday with a huge gig at Cairo Jazz Club that will see Massar Egbari take to the stage as the Alexandria natives continue to show why they are one of the best bands in Egypt, while a decidedly more chilled night of music awaits at Zamalek’s 3elbt Alwan, where Noha Fekry performs alongside jazz virtuoso, Rami Attallah.

There’s more live jazz over at Kempinski Nile Hotel’s Jazz bar, where Michelle Rounds performs. Over in New Cairo at Royal Maxim Palace Kempinski, meanwhile, a very different night of music awaits at the hotel’s bar, 3 AM, where DJ Feedo returns armed with his arsenal of hip-hop and r&b – of which there will also be plenty of at the Tap as Fat Sam kicks off the weekend at the Maadi bar.

At the other end of the musical scale completely, El Dammah Theater welcomes the musicians, poets and storytellers of the unique Bedouin Jerry-Can Band.

Elsewhere, contemporary Arabic musician , Mohamed El Nahas, performs at El Sawy Culturewheel, Salalem take to the stage at Downtown’s After Eight and Hisham Blues is in the spotlight at Fairmont Nile City’ Saigon Restaurant & Lounge.

Friday is a special day for ROOM Art Space, meanwhile, with the Garden City cultural hub marks its second anniversary with a big night that will see the likes of local rockers, Egoz, and Sudanese folk singer, Asia Madani, perform amongst several other acts.

At Cairo Jazz Club, meanwhile, electronic music is the order of the day, with Cairo DJs, Karim Zalat and Ayman Nageeb taking to the decks. Elsewhere, the always energetic Screwdriver perform at the Tap, and Basheer brings his Nubian-infused music to After Eight, while, 3 AM goes ahrd again with another Oriental-House fusion night at Blend.

There’s plenty of live music on Saturday, too, starting at El Genaina Theatre, where a double-header sees Rami Attallah perform again, this time with his band, Shokran JAZZilan. The night will also see enduring local band, Eftekasat, perform.

At Cairo Jazz Club, meanwhile, increasingly popular contemporary Oriental band, Bahiyya, round off the weekend, while Alexandrian group, Sorour, fuse Oriental, jazz and other genres at Zamalek’s 3elbt Alwan.

ROOM Art Space winds down its busy weekend with its recently launched Board Games night and Said Darwish is alive at El Sawy Culturewheel through local group, Torath Said Darwish, while the always fun open-mic night, Mashrou3 Al Mareekh returns at Darb 1718.

One more event of note; El Sawy Culturewheel’s annual Sakia Book Fair kicked off this week and is set to run till Saturday, offering a huge book fair alongside reading and several other literary activities.
