Cairo Weekend Guide: Mazzika x El Sat7, NeoByrd, Osama El Hady and More

Every week,  are all wait for this one golden moment, when you wrap up the week’s work, shut your laptop down and walk out of the office – it’s the weekend, folks! But enough monkey business and lets see what Cairo offers you this weekend.

Thursday begins with some top live music; Darb 1718 hosts another version of Mazzika x El Sat7, where local talent, Hania Fansa, along with her band, takes to the stage with a variety of songs that cover a range of genres, while El Sawy Culturewheel welcomes Osama El Hady for an indie night, and Muez Street’s Al Rab3 presents Ka3b Dayer, who take to the stage for a night of Arabic contemporary songs.  

Meanwhile, Maadi’s Yellow Umbrella is stocked with some of the best board games and snacks for a fun game night and Garden City’s ROOM Art Space gives you the chance to be the star in Open Mic Night.

As we go deeper into the night, Cairo Jazz Club starts the weekend in the company of two of the best electronic acts in town, Fulltone and NeoByrd, Maadi’s The Tap hosts Ramy DJunkie for another eitiong od Cheese Balls, while The Tap East presents a nu-disco night, with DJ Ayman Nageeb taking to decks.          

Friday comes with a variety of brunch options to choose from, among them is Semiramis InterContinental’s special Egyptian Summer Brunch at Night & Day, where a long list of authentic Egyptian delicacies is awaiting and The Tap East’s Let’s Do Brunch, where resident DJ, Sewwes, takes to the decks, before Armen V takes over in Dance Grooves, later in the night.

Cairo Jazz Club’s busy weekend, meanwhile, continues with a night of house courtesy of local DJs, DeerRailed and Special K, while elsewhereBluezophrenia pay tribute to the Red Hot Chili Peppers at The Tap Maadi and Sudan Roots takes to the 3elbt Alwan stage  Sudanese folk-music night, while Basheer, is back at Underground with some Nubian-inspires numbers.

More music is yet to come on Saturday, with spiritual chanter, Wael El Fashny, performing at 3elbt Alwan, Shady Mo’nes and his band, Hekayat, playing some Arabic contemporary songs at ROOM Art Space and the golden-voiced Noha Fekry and her band, Janan, taking to the stage of El Genaina Theatre, to play a variety of Arabic originals. Meanwhile, a Cairo Jazz Club double-header welcomes world music band, Almena, own from Alexandria and Ahmed Omar’s Egyptian-African fusion act, AfriCairo, who are joined on the stage by Sudanese songstress, Asia Madani.

On the other side of the musical spectrum, Both Taps are pouring rock, indie and grunge, with Salalem taking to the stage of Maadi’s, while The Woodpeckers Trio play some popular covers at The Tap East.
