Offering us a much-needed midweek day off, this week has been kind. However, we can’t help but feel excited about the return of the weekend. As always, the city never ceases to deliver a host of events that cater to all tastes, here’s a glimpse of what’s happening in the upcoming days:

Thursday begins with a couple of oriental music nights; one at Cairo Opera House’s Main Hall, courtesy of the National Arab Music Ensemble, while the other takes place at Arab Music Institute, where Mohamed El Toukhy takes to the stage for a variety of tunes.

Elsewhere Cairo Opera House’s Small Hall sees a Latin night courtesy of Mona Burkhardt and Las Encantadoras Melodias Orquesta, the Jazz Bar at Kempinski Nile Hotel Cairo welcomes Michelle Rounds on stage for a jazz night, while Shady Ahmed plays a round of originals and covers on stage at ROOM Art Space Garden City.

When the night grows older, DJ Lyon Avakian spins a number of pop tunes at The Tap East, Motherfunkers takes to the decks at The Tap West for a round of funk and pop tunes as part of Cheeseballs Night, while DJunkie spins some groovy tunes on decks at The Tap Maadi.

Cairo Jazz Club 610’s Electric Thursday sees Tourkey & Selim taking to decks, as well as DJ Mohasseb, for a selection of deep/tech house tunes, while Blitz and Vyrus are on the menu at Cairo Jazz Club, where Blitz cover a round of AC/DC and Aerosmith classics, while Vyrus pay tribute to Metallica.

When Friday comes, Yasmine El Elwany takes to the stage at El Sawy Culturewheel, which also sees Iraqi composer and oud player Nussir Shamma takes to the stage for a doubleheader on stage, while Hana Afifi pays homage to Ella Fitzgerald on stage at ROOM Art Sapce Garden City.  

Elsewhere, MESKA play a round of EDM hits, while DJunkie spins some disco tunes at Cairo Jazz Club 610, SeifO and Ashmawy are on the menu at Cairo Jazz Club for a round of house tunes; the same genre that Ayman Nageeb will be spinning, but on the decks at The Tap East.  More house music comes at The Tap Maadi, where Shunus, and The Disc Jockeys take to the decks. The night comes to an end with DJ Feedo taking to the stage at The Tap West for a round of R&B and hip-hop tunes.

As for Saturday, ROOM Art Space Garden City hosts a tribute night to Simon and Garfunkel, courtesy of The Woodpeckers, Cairo Opera House’s Small Hall hosts the screening of Alban Berg’s classic Wozzeck, live from The Metropolitan, while The Main Hall sees the orchestra taking to the pit to play various pieces by Beethoven.

Cairo Jazz Club’s Saturday L’Oriental hosts an Arabic contemporary music night by Bahiyya, The Tap East sees Hana Abaza playing a round of acoustic tunes on stage, while The Tap West welcomes Spade of Hearts for a jazz night.
