Hello, Cairo!

In this insufferable heat, Cairenes are escaping the city to Sahel, but Cairo is as buzzing with events all weekend long.

Thursday sees a night of live music with Raindogs and Bluenotes over at Cairo Jazz Club, while not-DJs, Wally and Timmy Mowafi, take to the decks of the Tap for another Horrible DJs night. Elsewhere, Fairmont Nile City’s O Bar hosts DJ Feedo for Thursday Obsession, while, DJ Roro, along with drummer Shaaban and saxophonist Loay, provides the music at Four Seasons Nile Plaza’s Graffiti.

Authentic Nubian sounds can be heard, meanwhile, at El Dammah Theater, where NubaNour are performing their folkloric beats, while unique musician, Aly El Helbawy, performs at El Sawy Culturewheel, where the culture centre is also set to welcome Egyptian stand-up comedian, Mina Nader, in a separate event.

Friday sees more of Cairo’s best DJs come out to play as Fayrouz T & Special K take charge of the DJ booth at Cairo Jazz Club,  while DJs OMR and IRMA take the reins at O Bar for the nighclub’s increasingly popular Friday night event, Good Vibes. Elsewhere at Fairmont Nile City, meanwhile, Saigon Restaurant & Lounge welcomes sultry songstress, Lana, for a night of laidback, live music, while belly-dancer, Soraya, performs at Bab El Nil.

Live music is on the menu, meanwhile, over at the Tap with energetic local band, Screwdrivers set to perform some blues and rock ‘n’ roll covers.

One of the biggest events of the weekend is set to take place on Saturday, as Garden City cultural venue, ROOM Art Space, celebrates its one year anniversary with a huge line-up of musicians including Pepperland, the Blowers and Telepoetic performing across a bumper 12-hour event.

It’s not the only live music across the city, however; acoustic virtuoso, Shady Ahmed, winds the weekend down at the Tap, while Cairo Jazz Club welcomes the kooky guys of Salalem for a night of Oriental-pop fusion.

Once again bringing their Lebanese beats to the decks of Bamboo night club are DJs Aly and Kiko and some blast from the past songs can be rejoiced at Cavallini’s Oldies night.

Art enthusiasts ought to find time in their day to pass by art galleries in the city; with many Cairene galleries holding their summer exhibitions featuring works of many contemporary Egyptian artists, including Nile Art GalleryGallery GrantGezirah Art Center and Zamalek Art Gallery.

Happy Weekend!
