On April 2nd, something powerful is starting in Cairo, and its influence will extend far beyond. The Egyptian Autistic Society is launching its 2026 Autism Awareness Campaign, and for the first time, it’s not just a local effort; it’s a global movement. Bringing together voices from across continents, the campaign is all about one simple but meaningful message: no one stands alone.

From Africa and the Middle East to Europe and North America, more than 20 organisations, experts, and advocates are coming together under one theme, sharing the same message across platforms using #GotYourBack and #في_ضهرك.

And it’s not just symbolic. The campaign is backed by some of the most respected names in the field, including Simon Baron-Cohen from the Autism Research Centre, as well as experts from the Florida Institute of Technology, the International Behavior Analysis Organization, and the Global Autism Project.

It’s a rare kind of collaboration, one that hasn’t really been seen on this scale since the Light It Up Blue movement, bringing the world together not just to raise awareness, but to truly connect.

The Heart of the Campaign: Siblings

This year, the focus is deeply personal. The campaign shines a light on siblings of individuals with autism, the ones who grow up side by side, who understand without needing explanations, who show up in quiet, constant ways.

Under the message “Got Your Back – في ضهرك”, it’s a reminder of something simple but powerful: support doesn’t always have to be loud to matter.

The campaign will be felt in meaningful ways throughout April. The Grand Egyptian Museum will light up in blue on World Autism Awareness Day, joining a global moment of awareness and solidarity.

Inside, visitors will also get to experience something special, a unique exhibition featuring chairs designed by individuals with autism. It’s not just about art; it’s about perspective, creativity, and seeing the world through a different lens.

The Woman Behind It All

At the centre of this movement is Dahlia Soliman, who has spent over 15 years pushing autism awareness forward in Egypt. Now part of the United Nations Autism Advocacy Coalition, her work is going global, connecting communities, amplifying voices, and building something that feels bigger than a campaign.

Because at the end of the day, this isn’t just about awareness. It’s about understanding, support, and knowing that someone, somewhere, always has your back.
