Looking into the Coronavirus ordeal, one can’t help but find a bright side where the whole community join forces to save lives; everyone can play the hero. While we resorted to playing the part by staying at home, a group of Egyptian chefs came together on an initiative named #احنا-معاكوا, preparing meals for the medical staff at the Abaseyya Fever Hospital.

Every day, the beehive (AKA Arabesque Development Kitchen in Maadi) sees its owner, Chef Wessam Masoud, and other chefs including Nelly Ezz, Nagwa Fathy, Marawan Hamdy, Almohanad Mostafa, Mohamed Salah, and Hisham Refa’at, getting down to work preparing the day’s menu.

To avoid the hazards that come with a crowded kitchen, the chefs lead a limited pack of volunteers, who help with cutting, preparing, as well as packing the daily meals. And to ensure the safety of the whole process, Dr Nihal Mohsen takes responsibility for sanitising the work environment. However, volunteers can also help with delivering the packages to the hospital.

The initiative is sponsored by a group of brands, whose products come in handy in the process; the list includes names like Shady Pack, Crystal, Unilever, Sunbulah Group, The Meat Farm, among others.

This positive initiative proves that not all heroes wear capes; some of them wear aprons too.
