The Definitive Guide to Living in the Capital , Cairo , Egypt

Toward the end of 2018, billboards have taken up the capital with adverts for African focused summits and conferences, aiming less to discover the continent’s resources, and more about having full access to its fast-growing economies, fuelled by its youngsters raising their countries’ GDP through innovative business models.

Egypt has always been the centre point for new inventions and ideas. And now, with more awareness on the crucial importance of entrepreneurship, we’ve seen new investors pouring resources into the world of developing startups; lending their expertise, and turning the spotlight on the economic ecosystem. Indeed, in a recent meeting at the London Business School Middle East Conference, Omar Almajdouie, the founding partner and CEO of Raed Ventures, stated “that while the UAE has ingrained a strong position in the region’s present entrepreneurial ecosystem, Egypt and Saudi Arabia will have a strong entrance in the next wave of startups in the region.”

In their own spotlight since their successful launch back in 2001, Flat6labs is now accepting applications for its Fall 2019 Cycle. For those who don’t know what Flat6Labs is, this is how they describe themselves on their website: 

“Flat6Labs is a regional startup accelerator program that fosters and invests in bright and passionate entrepreneurs with cutting-edge ideas. We provide seed funding, strategic mentorship, a creative workspace, a multitude of perks, entrepreneurship-focused business training, and directly support our startups through an expansive network of partner entities, mentors and investors. We create an environment where you can advance your company an incredible amount in a short period of time.”

The cycle is set to be held from the 18^th of August to the 7^th of December 2019. All applicants must be fully committed for the 4-month duration, and must be based in Cairo during this period.Once a team is selected to join the program, they will be granted a cash fund (500,000 LE – 750,000 LE), strategic mentorship, office-space, entrepreneurship-focused business training, aid with creating, and last but not least subject matter one on one sessions with experts. The application deadline is set for the 20^th of June 2019.
