We stumbled on an article by Dostor about the inspiring initiative called Matkhabeesh Weshak, which translates to “don’t hide your face,” encouraging people to feel proud of themselves. We dug a little deeper and found hundreds of photos posted on the community’s Facebook page that shows people with facial deformities smiling at the camera, along with numerous uplifting messages about accepting personal differences.

Matkhabeesh Weshak initiative aims to support any person born with deformities of the face or skull, and to educate society about the culture of difference. It also raises awareness about the need for parents to guide their children not to bully those who are different and respect their feelings, and provides medical support for those who need it.

We fully support the message of co-existence that Matkhabeesh Weshak promotes. We hope that the Egyptian society can learn to accept differences, physical or spiritual, and those who are different can understand that their flaws can actually be their perks.
