With Cairo traffic being unbearable, metro stations are the only saviour from the congested streets. During the past few years, there has been a lot of construction for new metro lines, and new phases of already existing lines. Now it seems we’re getting close to the opening of some new stations.

Reports from the Ministry of Transportation have announced the opening of the first part in phase 4 of Metro Line 3, also known as Heliopolis Metro, in the next few days. This section is set to include four new metro stations being opened, extending from Haroun up to Al Shams Club in Heliopolis, in a route that covers over 4 kilometres.

During the past month or so, the line has been undergoing tests to make sure that the new construction is up to standard, and that everything including signalling systems and train control systems are operating effectively. This is a crucial step to ensure the safe operation of the metro stations when passengers start using them.

The new stations to be opened on Metro Line 3, or Heliopolis Metro, includes one surface station, Al Nozha Station, and three subsurface stations, Haroun Station, Alf Maskan Station, and El-Shams Club Station. All required procedures have been completed, and Dr Mostafa Madbouly, Prime Minister of Egypt, is set to attend the inauguration of the new metro stations in the upcoming days.

With regards to Metro Line 4, there has been progress in the areas affected by the construction in Mohandeseen and Zamalek. The Ministry announced that the designs have been approved, and the situation is being studied at the moment with the executive partner of the new line.

These new projects will not be the last in metro stations development. The Director of the National Authority for Tunnels (NAT) has stated that there will be a lot of development and expansion projects in the forthcoming years, all aiming to facilitate commutes around Cairo in a safer and faster manner.
