If you’ve passed by the famous street in Giza, called Al-Bahr Al-Azam, then you’ve definitely seen the 370-metre-squared Al-Bahr Al-Azam Library, surrounded by greenery and with a view overlooking the Nile. It was a mystery for some of us whether it was up and running or not until this morning!

The State Information Service stated that after eight years of inactivity since 2011, Al-Bahr Al- Azam Library in Giza was inaugurated by Dr. Inas Abdel Dayem, Minister of Culture, along with the Governor of Giza, Major General Ahmed Rashed, and Dr. Ahmed Awwad, Head of the General Organisation for Cultural Palaces, after its relatively recent development and renovation. Abdel Dayem discussed Egypt’s ongoing mission to enrich its cultural integrity. She also added that Al-Bahr Al- Azam Library has always been a beacon of enlightenment, and stressed the need to prepare a sufficient programme of activities to satisfy the large population density in Giza.

According to Sada Elbalad English (SEE News), the library’s structure consists of three floors, including an entrance hall, a reception, an art gallery, a children library of about 2000 books, a summer cinema, a music kiosk, an information technology hall, a public library of about 7,500 books, science and literature hall, and an open roof for various cultural activities. In addition, the establishment includes 1162 books donated by the family of the late critic, Ali Abu Shadi. Moreover, it pertains 100 books in Braille for both children and adults, as well as the three publications of “Qatar Al Nada -Braille” magazine issued by the organization.
