The Governor of Cairo, Khaled Abdelaal, announced a plan to renovate Al Andalus Park in Zamalek. According to Nogoum FM, Abdelaal said that the restoration procedures are being carried out by a company specialised in heritage and archaeological restoration, under the supervision of the Ministry of Antiquities.

He also added that they will be using scenes showing the park from classic films, like Amir El Inteqam (1950) to restore it to its original design. The renovation of Al Andalus is being financed by the housing directorate in the governorate, is set to cost around 30LE million, and will be executed in two stages.

The first stage of restoration focuses on the infrastructure of the park and irrigation network, and it also includes the renovation of the fountain in the Pharaonic garden. The second centres on renovating the artefacts in the park, including statues of cobras in the Pharaonic garden. Visitors will also now get a direct view of the river Nile, as the fences will be modified.

Al Andalus Park was established by Muhammed Zulfiqar in 1935, during the reign of King Fouad I. It extends over two acres of land, which includes the Paradise Garden of Arabia in its southern region, which is similar to Spain’s Arab Andalusian gardens. The Pharaonic garden located in its northern side is listed among the Islamic and Coptic antiquities.
