Smart transportation applications have become widespread in Cairo and are spreading to other governorates. Currently, citizens rely heavily on them due to their ease, quality, safety, speed, and cleanliness of the vehicles.

Competition is fierce among multiple companies, but imagine your daily ride in Cairo being silent and luxurious, far from the noise of traditional fuel engines. This is precisely what the JTNY app offers, which relies on electric cars for transportation. Here’s everything you need to know about it.

Safe, Luxurious, and Eco-Friendly

JTNY is a specialised smart transportation application officially licensed by the Ministry of Transport. It began operating in May 2025 after obtaining a license to operate 100 electric vehicles, providing a safe, luxurious transportation service for passengers.

This makes the trip more relaxing and luxurious, and also provides an excellent level of cleanliness. There are different tiers, and you can book short journeys or city-to-city trips. The app offers exceptional safety features, as cameras monitor the entire journey. The company also ensures that highly qualified drivers are provided and that every trip is comfortable.

A Closer Look at Rides and Prices

You can request an immediate trip or book it a few days or hours in advance. Unfortunately, they do not have a fixed price per kilometre; it depends on the number of kilometres, the trip duration, and the time of day. A minute of waiting costs 5 EGP.

The minimum price for a trip is 100 EGP, in exchange for peace, comfort, and safety. The provision of new electric cars, high-level drivers, and camera monitoring affects the price. However, when ordering through the app, it was found that reserving a vehicle for a distance of 3.5 kilometres costs 250 Egyptian pounds for the trip, and payment is made via a credit or debit card or through the app wallet with the additional option of cash payment, which you can charge starting from 250 EGP. Fares are higher than those on mainstream transportation apps but vary by ride type.

Long Distance Rides

As for prices from city to city, they depend on distance and time. For example, if you are travelling from Cairo to Alexandria, the one-way fare is 4,167 EGP and the return fare is 6,250 EGP. This service is called an ‘Intercity Luxury’ trip. It competes with the prices of private limousines, with the advantage of being a brand-new electric car and completely safe, making it an ideal choice for business trips or luxury travel.

Where is JTNY Available in Greater Cairo?

According to the application, the current operational areas are Downtown, Dokki, Almaza, Rehab, Heliopolis, Maadi, Mohandessin, Agouza, 6th of October, New Cairo, Shorouk, Madinaty, El Manial, Sheikh Zayed, Nasr City, and Sheraton. They are seeking to expand into more areas in the coming period to reach Greater Cairo.
