They say that necessity is the mother of invention. Others seek out a niche and cater for it, while some take the road of repurposing existing innovations. Chewing gum giant, Trident, has taken the latter to heart with quirky new initiative, Tub Racers.

Over the past few months, Trident invited anyone with flair for design, and maybe even a love for bathtubs, to download the Tub Racers app and design a bathtub fit for racing.

As we write this, even our own creative juices are flowing – not unlike the juices that flow with every chew of Trident gum – wink, wink. After creating a masterpiece, participants were asked to send it to Trident, as others deliberated as to who had designed the best bathtub.  Voting closed over the weekend and the entrants with the top ten votes will then have their designs made to exact specifications, before being pitted against each other in what is set to be the first bathtub race in all of Egypt.

So rather than enjoying a lame soak in your bath at home, we bet you wish you’d got involved and helped Trident use bathtubs for what they’re clearly really meant for – racing. Vroom, vroom!
