It is undoubtedly true that applications like Uber and Careem have made life in a city hustling and bustling with life like Cairo a whole lot easier. Indeed, if we are ever just too frustrated to drive ourselves, or if we ever find ourselves far too worried about finding a parking spot, Careem Captains and Uber Drivers are always there for us.  All that being said, Uber and Careem are not always the cheapest way around the capital. This former statement is going to remain true due to the recent increase in gasoline.

Now a lot of you are probably wondering what Uber and Careem’s fares will look like after the latest increase. Uber’s starting fare price in Cairo remains 7 LE; however, the price per KM has increased from 2 LE to 2.30 LE, whilst a minute of waiting costs 30 piasters. As for Ubers operating in Alexandria, starting fare price have increased from 6 LE to 6.5 LE, whilst the price per KM has increased from 2 LE to 2.30 LE. As for Ubers operating in Mansoura, Hurghada, Tanta, Damanhour, and Zagazeeg, starting fare is 6 LE, while the price per KM went from 1.85 LE to 2.10 LE, with a minute of waiting costing 30 piasters.

As for Careem, the company has announced to its users, via an in-app message, that the fare starts at 6.5 LE, and 2.31 LE per KM. Finally, a minute of waiting costs 36 piasters. All this means that there is not that much of a difference between Uber and Careem, although the latter of the two maybe a few piasters and/or pounds cheaper on occasion.
