The golden age of Egyptian cinema, as they call it, was filled with tons of talented and gorgeous actresses that will forever remain in our memories; women who have played secondary roles as well as leading roles with incredible class and iconic performances. While many are contenders for the top spot, a whole lot of people will agree that this particular lady is more deserving than others.

Nariman Hussein Murad, is her birth name, and Hind Rostom is her stage name. They say beauty comes from within, but it seems that Hind Rostom had the whole package, inner beauty, and a beautiful appearance to complement her character.

Today, Google celebrates the life of one of Egypt’s most iconic female actresses. Born in 1931, the Alexandrian lived to her late 70s before bidding our world farewell in 2011. Despite her acting career coming to a halt in 1979 with her role in the film Hayaty Azab, her iconic roles still live to this day.

Today is her 87th birthday, and we remember her unforgettable imprint on Egyptian cinema. Director Hassan El-Imam discovered this talented lady in 1947, and she had her debut in the movie Azhar Wa Ashwak that year. Afterwards, she worked with some of Egypt’s best directors; the likes of Salah Abo Seif, Fatin Abdelwahab, and Youssef Chahine. Who can forget her iconic roles with Ismail Yassine, her hilarious part in Esha’et Hob, or her iconic scenes with Fouad El-Mohandes. Hind Rostom was also a serious actor, something perhaps best portrayed in her movie Bab Al-Hadid, directed by Youssef Chahine, who also co-starred as her obsessive admirer.

Egyptian cinema will be forever in debt to Hind Rostom’s incredible array of talents, and impressive palette of various roles. Her iconic contribution will remain a benchmark for young Egyptian actresses for decades to come.
