Egyptian’s love for nostalgia is never ending, and they’ve opened up a few restaurants that pay homage to 1950s America right here in Cairo. Slip into the classic cosy booths and chow down on some juicy burger and fries, and then you can wash it all down with a creamy milkshake. If you’ve ever felt like you were born in the wrong era, you’ll feel right at home in these retro themed diners.

The Diner

You can get all the classics here at Egypt’s first American diner. Simply called The Diner, this restaurant in Heliopolis is serving up fluffy, buttery pancakes, extra thick milkshakes and a totally retro aesthetic. After having a meal under their neon lights, you’ll feel ready to hit the drive-in theatre after.  

Sauce 

Let’s get saucy. Coming over from Dubai all the way to The Drive by The Waterway is Sauce.  This diner is here to bring the 50s back to Cairo with their delicious dishes and over the top decor. So, bring a date and flirt the old fashioned way by diving into one of their milkshakes with two straws. 

Roufy’s 

Tucked away in a corner of Maadi is Roofies, a restaurant paying homage to American culture and cuisine. Once you walk in, you’ll notice the walls are plastered with posters of old school movies, musicians and actors. From breakfast to dinner, their menu has classic American foods like fluffy pancakes, mac and cheese, burgers and crispy fried chicken. The decor is a little tame compared to the other spots on this list, but it’s got all the charm you would expect from an authentic American diner. 

Juke’s Diner 

This joint in Maadi screams 50s. They’ve even got a real jukebox that you can to play some of the hippest tunes you heard at the sock hop. Juke’s is wowing guests with their signature juicy and delicious caramelised sliders and fresh fries. You can also tuck into a bucket of their super saucy wings or go for the buffalo chicken burger. Cool off afterwards with a sweet milkshake for the perfect end to a meal.
